The Corporate Pirates of Penzance                            by Bernard J Taylor

Musical         Cast:  8 main characters, 9 secondary, chorus of 10

Orchestral backing tracks, as well as full orchestral scores, band parts and piano vocal scores are provided.

You don’t have to be a Gilbert and Sullivan aficionado to enjoy this. This show incorporates many of the usual narrative elements of a Gilbert and Sullivan story -- love across the social barriers, people not being who they seem to be, etc - and weaves them into a  more modern story of a corporate mogul (a Franchise King also known as the Corporate Pirate of Penzance) who is hoping his daughter will marry into the British aristocracy, and a penniless young poet who falls in love with the daughter. The show uses some of Gilbert and Sullivan's most popular and well known songs from Pirates of Penzance, H.M.S. Pinafore, The Mikado, Iolanthe, Trial by Jury and The Gondoliers, mixing the music of Arthur Sullivan and the words of W.S. Gilbert with lyrics that reflect the modernized narrative. Updated versions of familiar characters from the traditional shows are there, including the cowardly policemen from Pirates of Penzance, as well as Josephine, Ralph and Buttercup from H.M.S. Pinafore.

Your Name on My Lips                               by Eric Sirota

Musical romance     4m,3w (min w/doubling)  125 minutes   Simple unit set
Scored for piano (and optional cello).  Appropriate for all audiences

Sam is an artist; and art plays a major role in the plot; But the story is about love, and passion, obsession and commitment.  A childhood friendship turns to romance.  College for Suzanna means change.  When apart, Sam's Fantasy-Suzanna (played by another actress), keeps Sam true to Suzanna and inspires him, enabling him to reach his goal.  While Suzanna, in love with Sam, is a dynamic real character who evolves in a way that Fantasy-Suzanna cannot.   While Sam is the protagonist (because the audience gets inside his head), Suzanna is a complex, empathetic and conflicted character, with whom we can relate.  This show is not written with the expected  world view of someone looking back to youth, older, wiser, maybe weathered and cynical.    The "world view" here is that the young characters' feelings are real, powerful and valid, and warrant the soaring passionate music.
